How to Replace an Ink or Toner Cartridge
Use the cartridge number made for your printer and install it with the printer turned on.
Steps
- Find the right cartridge number in your printer's manual or on the old cartridge.
- With the printer on, open the cartridge access door and wait until the carriage stops moving.
- Release and remove the empty cartridge as shown on the label inside the printer.
- Unpack the new cartridge and remove all protective tape or caps, without touching the contacts or nozzles.
- Insert it in the matching slot until it clicks, then close the door.
- If the printer asks, print the alignment page and follow the steps on screen.
Tips
- Ink tank printers are refilled from bottles instead; follow your model's refill steps to avoid spills.
- Many makers run free recycling programs for used cartridges.
